Get vaccinated to stay alive: Gaikhangam to people
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, July 16 2021: We need to stay alive now and money can be earned later on, stated AICC CWC Gaikhangam while expressing that the slogan of 'go for COVID-19 vaccination' to prevent from the virus is the message to stay alive ourselves.

Gaikhangam visited Khoupum valley in Nungba assembly constituency on Friday to join the COVID-19 vaccination campaign and also received dose of the vaccine.

The virus causing COVID-19 pandemic is a dreaded one and the best option to protect ourselves from it is vaccination, Gaikhangam said, while taking part in the vaccination campaign.

He appealed to people to vaccinate as early as possible to prevent spread of the virus.

The ongoing pandemic is not a challengeable one but this does not mean that we should run away from the pandemic, he said, adding that vaccination will not fully prevent one from the virus but it will definitely reduce the risk.

While urging people not to believe in the rumours being spread about COVID-19 vaccine, Gaikhan-gam encouraged people to get the vaccine without fear so as to save family members, neighbours and the locality.

Vaccination drive in Khoupum, Nungba and Noney has improved for a sub-division but there is the need for acceleration, he said, adding that he got the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine in front of public at Khoupum so that people would have trust in the vaccine.

During the vaccination campaign attended by SDO Khoupum, top police officials, medical officers and health experts, Gaikhangam appealed to people of Khoupum to be in the forefront COVID-19 vaccination.

He also said that the vaccination campaign was held to enhance awareness among public and speed up the vaccination process particularly in the hills.

Lambasting the government's policy on tackling the pandemic, Gaikhangam said that it was wrong to make testing compulsory while putting the vaccination secondary.

The main reason for slow vaccination process is spread of fake news and rumours on social media.

People have now discarded rumours and coming out for vaccination but the issue of scarcity of vaccine surfaces now and this indeed is government's mistake.

Though the government is targeting to vaccinate one crore people daily, they could supply only 40 lakh vaccine doses, Gaikhangam alleged, adding that this exposes lack of vision of the present government.

The country suffered during the first wave of pandemic due to unpreparedness and sudden onslaught of the pandemic but the present alarming situation is the result of government's negligence of advice and warning given by experts, Gaikhangam said, adding that the present alarming situation in Manipur too is result of erroneous policy of the government.

The situation will improve only when government rectifies all its mistakes, he said, adding that the government formulates SOPs and violates the same and this is what the people find hard to digest.
