Imphal, December 10 2009: State DGP, Y Joykumar today denied the report on number of security forces in the state appeared in this paper under "Every 50 Manipuris are under the barrel of one CPMF man's gun" stating that only an estimated 28,400 (CMPF, Army, MR/IRB and civil police) are deploying in the state.

Counting at the rate of 75 personnel per coy, the total number of security personnel including CPMF, Army and state police can be estimated at 28,400 which is far less than the figure given in this newspaper on its December 9 edition, the DGP stated.

A statement of the DGP asserted that only 26 battalions of Assam Rifles, six battalions of CRPF and three battalions of BSF deployed in the state.

Some of the AR battalions have only one or two coys deployed in the state while remaining coys of the units are deployed elsewhere.

In all only 105 coys of Assam Rifles deployed in the state, in respect of Army unit too, only 24 coys deployed while only six CRPF battalions and not seven mentioned in the report of the Hueiyen Lanpao deployed.

Further only three battalions of BSF not six deployed.

Further, the number of Coys deployed out of these six and three battalions of CRPF and BSF are 36 and 16 coys only.

In all the number of coys deployed is 105 coys of Assam Rifles, 24 coys of army, 36 coys of CRPF and 16 coys of BSF are deploying in the state, the DGP asserted. The approximate strength of a coy is about 75 personnel.

As such, the number of Assam Rifles, Army, BSF and CRPF deployed in the state is 181x75=13,575 only, he put down.

This is far less than the figure of 51,000 mentioned in the article.

As regard the strength of civil police personnel, presently posted strength is only 5010 which includes all the CDOs and 79 officers of the rank of deputy SO and above.

The number of MR/IRB personnel posted is 9729 which includes 72 officers.

Thus, the DGP statement counted the factual position regarding the total number of CPMF, Army and Police personnel deployed in the state is 13575+5018+9729=28322 say 28400 and not the figure of 51,000 (CPMF) 10,000 (Army) 15,000 (MR/IRB)+1600 (CDOs) + 5000 (civil police) = 82,600 .
