Kakching, June 09 2024:
Reacting strongly to an alleged statement made by Manindra Konsam, former editor of Sanathong journal, on his YouTube channel concerning the origin of people in Kakching, the History Society Kakching, Representatives of Lois Kakching and Laipham Pana Liklai Loishang Kakching have demanded a clarification from him within three days.
Addressing a press conference in this regard at Library and Information Centre Kakching in Kakching Phousupat Leikai, Yengkhom Nilachandra, former president of ROL, Kakching stated that on his YouTube channel "Ngasigi Apunba Meitei Gi saktam", Manindra Konsam attributed the genesis of Kakching to a group of people who came from mainland India during the reign of 'Meidingu Lai Kiyamba' sometime between 1512-1523 AD.
Terming Manindra's statement as wildly baseless, he asserted that the people of Kakching strongly condemn the former editor's claim.
To refute Manindra Konsam's allegation, Yengkhom Nilachandra highlighted the 'Kei Loi Lingkhatpa' puya wherein it was said that during the reign of Nongda Lairen Pakhangba (33-154 AD), 15 villages were declared as "Lois" with Kakching being a prominent one among them.
To further prove that Kakching community has existed since time immemorial in Kangleipak, Nilachandra went on to point out the existence of "Kakching Haraoba", one of the major Umang Lai Haraoba festival celebrated here.
Thus, he has urged Manindra Konsam to issue a clarification on the matter within three days to the public.
The press conference was attended by Dr P Rajendra, secretary, History Society Kakching; Dr N Pramodini, Peoples Museum Kakching; Dr M Prabin, president, Laipham Pana Liklai Loishang; Ksh Ranjan, former secretary, Representatives of Lois (ROL) Kakching; Dr Th Ojit, president, ROL and Rajen Naoremcha, Salai Kakching among others.
