Teachers' Day celebrated widely in Imphal

Loyal Wushu Academy, Pungdongbam celebrated its first Teachers' Day along with the inauguration of its newly constructed building at Pungdongbam Makha Leikai Community Hall today.
The function was attended by Lamlai AC MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha, Pungdongbam GP Chairperson Irungbam Prem Meitei, Pungdongbam Meira Paibi president Irungbam Sanahanbi Leima, vice president Irom Santi, PKDC secretary Wakambam Romen Meitei, YDCL president Khaidem Chingkheinganba and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Kh Ibomcha said if sportspersons work hard, it will not only benefit them but also the constituency.
He said a football stadium costing about Rs 8 crore is being constructed at Lamlai as part of 11 such stadiums in Manipur.
He said more funds will be released under Khelo India for sports infrastructure including indoor halls.
The MLA also underscored the importance of setting up academies for various disciplines and called upon the youth to strive for excellence.
In another function, SS Charitable & Educational Foundation and Apunba Nupi Marup felicitated retired teachers at SWC Club Community Hall, Kwakeithel Nganapithong Mapal on Saturday.
Speaking at the function, Director of the Foundation Silomi Sanjenbam said patriotism is not confined to one profession, everyone who sincerely serves society is a patriot.
She said good students can be produced with proper mentors even without adequate infrastructure and stressed the need for proper career counselling.
She said after opening its Imphal Centre at Paona Bazar, the Foundation has opened centres at Thoubal, Ukhrul, Senapati and Dimapur and has launched door-to-door mental health counselling programmes with psychologists in view of growing mobile addiction among children.
