DESAM against appointment of non locals at JNIMS

Imphal, May 04 2018: Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded the authority concerned to refrain from including non local candidates for appointment to 18 vacant posts at JNIMS Dental College.

Speaking to media persons at DESAM's office at Sagolbang Moirang Leirak today, the association's secretary general Sheetal Oinam said that a notification was issued on April 17 for appointment to 18 vacant posts of JNIMS Dental College.

However during investigation, DESAM found that many non locals had applied for the said posts, Sheetal said and added that DESAM will not allow the act of giving such opportunity to the non locals with regards to the State hospital.

JNIMS Dental College is under the Dental Council of India (DCI) .

But the selection process is being monitored by Medical Council of India, under a selection committee (with Chief Secretary as chairman, Administrative Secretary of Health, Manipur University VC as members, a subject expert and JNIMS Director as member secretaries).

Even if there are no certain rules and regulations for the Dental College, the selection process should be under the DCI and not under any committee, claimed the DESAM leader.

Decrying the attempt to select the candidates without the presence of any experts, Sheetal warned the Director of JNIMS against any attempt to greenlight the selection process without consulting any experts.

Claiming that the notice contained 'desirable as well as knowledge' in local language in the rules and regulations, Sheetal said that DESAM views the attempt as trying to give opportunity to the non local candidates by withholding the said points.

Sheetal demanded the authority concerned to issue a new notice regarding the selection process and to appoint the candidates (domicile of the State) who the people approve.

If the authority concerned fails to heed the demand and attempt to include non locals, DESAM will take up various forms of agitation, he added.

On the other hand, DESAM secretary (organisation coordination) Mayengbam Somorjit said that DESAM condemns the arrest of Bhairodan Maxwell Hindi Primary School Headmistress by City police on the charge of destroying the fruit stall located, in front of the school.

Urging the police not to resort to such tactics in the future against a teacher, he demanded strict actions against the police personnel involved in the act.
