Imphal, May 04 2010: The tense situation prevailing in Manipur and neighbouring Nagaland over the issue of Thuingaleng Muivah's proposed visit to Manipur is a doing of the Government of India, particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Government of India's assurance to the NSCN (IM) leadership to allow Muivah to visit Manipur while overlooking the incident of June, 2001, despite knowing fully well that Muivah's proposed trip has a political agenda, and then retracting their assurance because the Government of Manipur does not fall in line is responsible for the tense and unsettling situation, the Policy and Organisational Research Associates, Manipur (PORAM) asserted in a press release.

During the last 13 years of peace talk with NSCN (IM), the Government of India has not achieved any development except driving wedges among different communities of the North East region.

In the face of New Delhi's policy of paying little attention or remaining oblivious to such sensitive issues with an intention to let the people of the North East fight against each other, it is only natural for the relationship between the people of Manipur and India to grow apart.

The message intended to give by burning Manipur bound loaded trucks in Nagaland will never be realised, it said.

No policies aimed at creating conflicts among the people of Manipur has ever succeeded.

The State Government should work to settle the ugly situation by taking the issue at the highest political level of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi, it added.

In a separate press release, the National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) alleged that the Government of India has been repeatedly attempting to destroy the integrity of Manipur just to please NSCN (IM).

If the Government of India is determined to please Muivah at the cost of Manipur, the people of Manipur would be constrained to seek reversion of the political status of Manipur to the status it enjoyed before it was forcibly merged into the Indian Union.

NIPCO also hailed the State Government's stand on the proposed visit of Th Muivah to Manipur as fitting and justified.

The All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU) has also lauded the State Cabinet decision as necessary and demanded by the situation.

Denouncing the act of arson committed against Manipur bound trucks in Nagaland, the AAMSU cautioned that such actions can invite similar reactions to vehicles not harmed by the miscreants outside Manipur and Nagaland.

The principle of Th Muivah is misplaced and this would slander the image of NSCN (IM), it added.

Meanwhile, the Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS) Manipur remarked that the proposed visit of Th Muivah to Manipur apparently carrying a hidden agenda is conspiracy hatched by the Government of India.

The State Government's prohibition on the entry of Muivah to Manipur is also a part of the same conspiracy.

This conspiracy which threatens the peaceful atmosphere of the region has exposed the double-standard nature and divide and rule policy of the Government of India, it remarked.

At this critical juncture, all the communities need to focus on maintaining harmony and co-existence, it called out.

The International Peace and Social Advancement, (IPSA) while lauding the position adopted by the State Government with regard to Muivah's visit to Manipur, asserted that Muivah has not right to come to Manipur until and unless he gives up his demand for greater Nagaland.

IPSA declared that it would never stand to watch any campaign to disintegrate Manipur in the name of Naga integration.

It condemned the act of arson committed against Manipur bound trucks.

Turning to those people who have been imposing prolonged economic blockades on National Highways time and again thereby blackmailing the lives of the people of Manipur, IPSA advised not to stretch patience of the people beyond limits.

It appealed to all the people to remain calm.
