Sit-in protests assault on auto-rickshaw driver

Imphal, August 03 2025: Denouncing the brutal assault of an auto-rickshaw driver on July 25 at Mayang Langjing Bazar, Uripok Kangchup Road Mega Auto Association (UKRAMMADA) staged a sit-in protest at Mayang Langjing Community Hall today.

The sit-in was participated by members of Mayang Langjing Meira Paibi, All Phumlou Apunba Meira Paibi and UKRAMMADA.

Speaking on the media, UKRAMMADA secretary Salaingamba Laishram said that Kh Bogeshor, an auto-rickshaw driver and president of the association was brutally assaulted by a youth who came in a two wheeler vehicle (Activa), over a minor accident at Mayang Langjing Bazar.

Vehemently condemning the indiscriminate and brutal assault, he asserted that Bogeshor suffered severe injuries to his spinal cord in the attack and has been hospitalized.

"Bogeshor's condition is very serious, we are not sure if he may be able to drive his auto-rickshaw again", added Salaingamba while urging the authorities concerned to award befitting punishment to the culprit(s).

"Accidents can happen anywhere to anybody", said Ahanthem Sunita, secretary of All Phumlou Apunba Meira Paibi.

She also appealed to all the people to not resort to violence and handle such incidents peacefully through proper dialogues/negotiations.
