K Meghachandra inaugurates Gwarok Tourist Destination

Thoubal, February 03 2025: Wangkhem Assembly Constituency MLA and president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Keisham Meghachandra inaugurated the Gwarok Tourist Destination located at Yairipok Kekru Gwarok Ching today.

Accompanied by his wife, the MLA also offered oblations at the traditional Phairen Panchami festival held at the sacred site of Nongpok Tarang Saraba at Gwarok Ching.

Handing over the tourist site to the public, MLA K Meghachandra informed media persons that the site was set up with a total budget of Rs 50 lakh, with Rs 30 lakh funded by the Tourism Department and the remaining Rs 20 lakh from the MLA's Local Area Development Fund.

The site was developed under an initiative of the State to upgrade tourist spots in the State.

The Gwarok Tourist Destination boasts of various facilities including a kitchen, community hall, separate washrooms for men and women, open air theatre for concerts, dramas or other related events and jogging trails/paths among others.

The MLA added that the facilities available at the Gwarok Tourist Destination will make it convenient for people visiting the worship site to offer prayers and in conducting other religious rituals including feasts.

He further urged the local committee in charge of the worship site to supervise the area carefully.

The MLA said that thousands of devotees visit the sacred shrine to offer prayers every year on Phairen Panchami and on Sundays to seek blessings as there is a closely held belief that prayers offered here are granted.

The event was graced by Keisham Ongbi Robita Leima, wife of K Meghachandra and representatives of Kekru Ideal Progressive Committee (KIPC), Kekru Yairi Club Yairipok (KYCY), Kekru Youths Development Club (KYDC) and Kekru Meira Paibi.
