Imphal, May 08 2011:
CM Ibobi today asked contractors at the Thoubal Multi-purpose project and Dolaithabi project to work even during the rainy season so as to meet targeted dates.
According to IFCD minister, N Biren, with completion of construction of 85% of the earth dam, 75% of the spillway component and 100% of the barrage component, the work for the power component of the ' 1,000 crore worth Thoubal project has commenced.
The project targets to generate 7.5 megawatts of power.
The actual target for completion was March 2012, but considering the present progress of work, it could be completed by December of 2011, Biren said.
Mention may be made that the construction of the Thoubal Multi-purpose project commenced from 1982.Till 2007, no satisfactory progress was made in the construction, but since Biren took over charge of IFCD the work progress sped up.
Before Biren took over charge, only 15% of the earth dam and 10 % of the spillway were completed.
Since then, the work had to stop for around three months due to the non-arrival of construction materials as a result of the prolonged economic blockade coupled with killing of five labourers by miscreants.
The CM also inspected the progress work of the Dolaithabi Project in Imphal east.
Satisfied with the progress of work made in the last few months, the CM asked the contractors to ensure meeting the targeted date of completion which is March 2011 .
The estimate of the project was ' 240 crore.
