Ukhrul ADC launches 'National Nutrition Mission'

Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) member H A Vareishang today launched a month long programme of National Nutrition Mission (NNM) at ADC Complex Phungreitang, Ukhrul while Tribal Food Mela was also hosted by ADC, Ukhrul as a part ofNNM programme.
Speaking as chief guest of the launching programme, HA Vareishang expressed on the need of collective effort both from Administrative Staff and elected members of the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council for the successful implementation of National Nutrition Mission in the district while adding that NNM specially focuses on education, healthy diet, personal hygiene & sanitation to create a pool of well-nourished human resource to achieve the tag of Developed Nation in 21st century.
Councilor Mark Luithing stressed on the need to avail nutritional foods to all school going children to remain active and healthy and added that concerted efforts from all sections of society which also involved department not only dependent on government funds would be more fruitful.
While delivering keynote speech, DPO Social Welfare, Ukhrul A S Tabitha dwelt on the need of convergence for successful implementation of the National Nutrition Mission in the district.
She also emphasized on the prime objective of Rashtriya Poshan Maah which entailed supply of nutritional foods to children below 6 years of age, lactating mother, pregnant women and adolescence to ensure better growth and healthy living.
She further mentioned that District Social Welfare Department has also prepared to take up more dynamic activities to augment the nutritional status of every village through different Anganwadi Centres under NNM and added that smart phone would be provided to all Anganwadi workers to update the status in time.
NNM is a three years national programme launched with the aim to eradicate mal-nourishment especially among the women and children, she added.
In the meantime, CEO Ukhrul Polly Makan administered the pledge for full commitment under National Nutrition Mission to make the mission successful with total implementation and availing of benefits to all the targeted groups in Ukhrul District.
Speaking at the sidelines of the launching programme, CEO Ukhrul Polly Makan also said that ADC Ukhrul is all set to organize awareness and sensitization programme of National Nutrition Mission and will target most of the blocks of Ukhrul District during the month long observance of the programme in order to achieve the target of District Council.
More than 80 varieties of organic food crop, fruits, vegetables, grains, juice, and prepared food were put on display in the Tribal Food Mela at ADC Complex, Phungreitang while ADC member Mark Luithing led the inspection of the one day Food Mela function.
Students from schools under UADC of Ukhrul town, Addl CEO, DI, AI, staff of ADC, teachers, and well wishers attended the launching programme.
