Imphal, May 27 2018:
JCILPS and the Thangmeiband United Youth Club (TUYC) have launched a joint verification drive of non-locals staying in rented rooms/houses.
Speaking to media persons at their Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai office this evening, TUYC general secretary Moirangthem Thomas said that together with JCILPS they have verified 186 nonlocal people since yesterday and 56 of them were found not in possession of proper identity proof documents.
All the non-local people who do no possess identity proof documents have been asked to submit valid identification documents to the club within three months together with domicile certificates of their house numbers which have house numbers.
It is a matter of grave concern that many non-local people adopted local surnames after marrying local girls, said JCILPS Students Wing convenor Manjit Sarangthem.
One non-local man residing at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai changed his name to Wahengbam Ashish Das after marrying a girl of Wahengbam family.
He was found in possession of both Aadhaar card and voter card.
Another non-local named James was found adopting local surname Thingbaijam, Manjit said.
He asked the concerned DCs, SDOs, SDCs and BLOs to be scrupulous while issuing any document to such non-local people.
Documents issued to nonlocal people based on manipulated or fabricated personal details should be invalidated and all the officials involved in issuing such dubious documents should be awarded befitting punishment, he demanded.
Manjit said that similar verification drive of non-local people would be launched in hill districts too in association with like-minded student organisations.
Incessant influx of non-local people has landed all the indigenous people in a very precarious situation and they may face total annihilation after 30/40 years, Manjit said.
Bangladeshis who came to the State as refugees and settled at Saiton Nganukon between Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts got elected in the last Panchayat election, he mentioned.
