Imphal, August 24 2013 :
A solo music cassette of popular contemporary singer K Bobin 'Bin', highlighting gradual dilution of the indigenous population by outsiders, has been released today at Manipur Press Club.
The solo album, entitled 'San Chang-nge', release function was held in the presence of Joint Committee Inner Line Permit System convenor Sapamcha Jadumani, Economics Department (MU) Professor Chinglen Maisnam, NIPCO president Sunil Karam, UCM president Y Nabachandra and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai.
While justify the ongoing movement for implementation of inner line permit system in Manipur by highlighting growing concern of the common people due to increasing impact upon the indigenous population by outsiders, various speakers criticised the Government of Manipur for lacking commitment to protest the indigenous people.
Citing non-local population overtaking the indigenous Tripuris in Tripura State, they cautioned that delay in implementing ILP in Manipur would lead to similar situation as there are already substantial number of non-locals settled in Manipur.
Reflecting on the recent development along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur sector and charging the Central Government of continuing to sacrifice Manipur's ancestral land as an appeasement policy towards Myanmar after the infamous 'gifting' of Kabo Valley to the neighbouring country, the speakers ridiculed both reluctance of the State Government to implement ILP and indifferent attitude of the people's representatives on the issue.
Along with reminding that demand for ILP has nothing to do with ousting non-locals from Manipur but a public demand to protect the indigenous community, they also regretted that despite empowered to change anti-people Government the electorates are yet to fully exhibit their Constitution-bestowed franchise right.
