Police detain 243 violators

Imphal, May 22 2021: As a part of its continued crackdown on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the State Government and the State Disaster Management Authority in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, State police today detained 243 persons for their failure to wear masks and not maintaining social distancing in public places.

The violators were released later after warning, said a statement issued by IGP (OPS), Nodal Officer (COVID-19) for Manipur Police.

A sum of Rs 84,000 was fined as per law from the violators, the statement said.

The State Police Department also warned of strong legal action against those who violate guidelines and restrictions under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
