AR, CRC sign MoU to empower persons with disabilities

Assam Rifles, India's oldest paramilitary force, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Composite Regional Centre (CRC), a premier institute under administrative control of National Institute for Empowerment of Person with Multiple Disabilities (Divyangjan), Chennai.
According to a release issued by HQ IGAR(South), this landmark agreement aims to provide assistance to both the serving and retired personnel of Assam Rifle as well as their dependents.
The MoU was signed by Pushpa Nair, president Assam Rifles Wives Welfare Association and Dr Ram Shakal Sahani, Director, CRC, Shillong in a formal ceremony held at the AR Headquarters in Shillong.
As part of the understanding, CRC, Shillong will provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities, including physical, mental and intellectual disabilities.
Quality rehabilitation services will also be provided to personnel with Disabilities (Divyangjan) both serving and retired of Assam Rifles as well as their dependents referred by Assam Rifles, including assessment and diagnostic intervention at the office of CRC, Shillong.
Capacity building programmes will be developed and implemented for Assam Rifles personnel and their families (including Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks), as well as the local population in the areas where Assam Rifles operates, on disability and rehabilitation issues.
Specialised team of CRC, Shillong would visit schools run by Assam Rifles and conduct screening of children below 10 years of age for early identification of abnormalities/disabilities in the children and suggest remedial measures in case abnormality/disability is identified in any child/ children.
The CRC, Shillong would organise training of teachers of the Assam Rifles Schools in Shillong Garrison on handling teaching and caring for the children with special needs.
Lectures will be organised for the parents of children with special needs on the important aspects of core education and rehabilitation of the.

CRC, Shillong would also facilitate rehabilitation of all the disabled soldiers of Assam Rifles both serving and retired, under ADIP Scheme on requirement basis as per ADIP and Government of India norms.
