Sit-in condemns bomb threat

Imphal, July 08 2024: A sit-in protest was staged today at Nongpok Panthoibi Haraobung in Kongba Uchekon Khunou condemning the firing of live rounds and planting of a hand grenade at the residence of Moirangthem Rupachandra Meitei, Executive Engineer, Rural Engineering Department on Sunday night.

The sit-in was participated by Meira Paibis of the areas under the jurisdiction of Social Youth United Club, Uchekon Khunou.

Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Nupi Chaokhat Khongthang Lup treasurer S Damenti said that the people of Kongba Uchekon area take the planting of a hand grenade and firing incident very seriously.

She urged all concerned to not repeat such acts in the future and added that the unfortunate incident has created more tension among the public who are already reeling due to the ongoing conflict.

She also appealed to all concerned to not cause fear among the people and solve any issue through negotiation.

Further, Damenti further announced that considering the prevailing tense situation and to prevent similar tragic incidents in the future, entry for outsiders in areas under the jurisdiction of Social Youth United Club has been restricted from 6 am to 6 pm.

At the sit-in, the protesters also displayed placards with the writings such as, "We condemn planting of bombs in residential areas", "Stop Gun Culture", "No More Guns", "Stop Gtin Violence", etc.
