AR recovers smuggled medicine supplies

Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended two Shaktiman truck drivers who produced 14 tax invoices of drugs and medicines worth Rupees 7,90,357, said a statement by IGAR (South) .
In the current COVID pandemic, medicines are the most sought after commodity by one and all, said the statement.
Taking advantage of the increased demand of medicines, the inimical elements of the society are trying to make profits by smuggling medicines across the Indo-Myanmar border, it added.
Based on the specific inputs, on July 23 at around 6:00 am, troops of AR under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) activated the Check Post at Bungdung in Kamjong District and at around 9:00 AM, two Shaktiman trucks moving from Imphal to Wanglee were stopped for checking.
On enquiry from drivers, they produced 14 Tax Invoices of drugs and medicines worth Rupees 7,90,357.The drivers Shanireingam and Varekam informed that they were going to cross the border into Myanmar near Wanglee village.
On detailed scrutiny of the invoice receipts, it was observed that the tax invoices are not stamped by any authorized seller and were fake.
The vehicles alongwith drivers/co-drivers were taken to Kasom Khullen Police Station and the total 92 boxes present in the two vehicles were unloaded and locked up in cell of the PS.
Since no electricity was available at the PS, physical verification of the recovered items was carried out in the presence of AR troops and Police.
The approximate value of the medicines was found to be 12 Lakhs, which is more than the value of 7.9 Lakhs as mentioned in the tax invoice.
The recovered medicines alongwith the drivers and co-drivers were handed over to Kasom Khullen Police Station for further legal actions.
