Non-Cong parties to rally against 'faulty' border fencing

Imphal, September 15 2013: The non-Congress Political parties in the State are all set to organize a mass rally on September 26 in protest against the 'faulty' border fencing being carried out along Indo-Myanmar International boundary at Moreh, following which a large chunk of Manipur's land has reportedly gone to Myanmar.

Announcing this to media persons at the Babupara office of JD (U) Manipur State Unit here today, M Tomba, President of JD (U), Manipur State Unit and convenor of the non-Congress political parties informed that a meeting of the non-Congress parties was held during which various issues confronting the State including the present border fencing dispute were discussed at length.

In addition to loss of land in Moreh, over 105 kms of land area in Ukhrul district of Manipur bordering Myanmar are also set to be lost due to the present border fencing.

This came to light when the non-Cong Political parties went for an inspection of the border fencing work recently.

The present border fencing issue is an important issue that cannot be ignored at all, Tombi said.

He further stated that a mass rally over the 'faulty' border fencing would be carried out on September 23.The rally would be flagged off from THAU ground at Thangmeiband.

The rallyists will proceed towards the Governor's Bungalow and submit a memorandum to the Governor.

A map of the border fencing would also be brought out on the occasion.

The meeting of the non-Congress political parties also condemned the bomb blast incident at Khoyathong on Friday night which left nine construction workers were killed.

Instead of taking up actions after the bomb blast incident, it would have been much better if the government had taken up precautionary measures to avoid such incidents from happening, Tombi suggested.

Lauding the court judgement on the Delhi gang-rape case, Tombi said that the decision to award death penalties to the rapists is cent per cent correct and maintained that such death penalties should also be given to rapists in Manipur as well.

Coming to a recent case where a school teacher from Manipur failed to claim the prestigious National Teacher Award 2013 due to the laxity of the state Government, Tombi demanded that the state education department, its minister and officials should be pulled up.
