In a bid to check the rampant sale of hand sanitizers lacking essential composition in the State, members of Apunba Imagi Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) today conducted a drive at Gandhi Avenue.
The members inspected various chemists shops and other grocery shops at the location to check whether they have proper licence, a statement of AIMS said.
During the drive, it was found that many shops were selling hand sanitizers which do not reach prescribed percentages of alcohol, ethanol etc.
Hand Sanitizers lacking the prescribed alcohol percentage as prescribed by the World Health Organisation (60 to 95 percent) were seized by the volunteers and were disposed of, it said.
The shop-owners who were selling were also called to the office and counselled, it said.

The names of the hand sanitizer products which were seized and disposed off by the volunteers today include Health& Beyond, Safe Hand, Shreyanjalee, U-Safe, Flocare, Oxyglow, SB, Be-Safe, Pansari, Elders, Orysan and Safe-U.The student bodies also appealed to all to be very careful while buying hand sanitizers which do not meet the required ingredients and respective composition.
Fight against COVID-19 will remain ineffective, if people continue to use such products, it said and appealed authorities concerned to look into the matter and do the needful to ensure safety for all.
