Imphal, October 02 2012:
A Manipuri, who was reported to be missing since September 25 last from Howrah Railway Station, was found killed near Cossipore Police Station which is located at a distance of around 10 kms away from the railway station, on September 29 .
The deceased identified as Amom Rajen (46), s/o late A Angou of Kumbi Tera Kha Makha Leikai was working as a teacher at Paradise School, a private school, at Kankar district of Chhattisgarh.
Taking to mediapersons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Amom Jiten, younger brother of the deceased, said that Rajen returned home from Chhattisgarh when people of North East origin fled following the recent threats of being targeted.
Later when the respective governments declared that all the North East people were safe in their states, Jiten also headed back to Chhattisgarh along with his eldest daughter on September 23 .
On September 24, he boarded a train from Dimapur and reached Howrah railway station on September 25 .
Leaving her daughter at the railway platform, Rajen went to get tickets for Chhattisgarh.
But he never returned.
Knowing not what to do, his daughter remained waiting and crying when some Manipuris came across her and handed her over to a nearby BSF camp nearby.
The BSF personnel later informed Manipur police and finally the news of Rajen's missing reached his family.
Jiten further informed that one Amom Romeo, a cousin of Rajen, who is serving as an army man in Madhya Pradesh rang up Rajen on the night of September 25 during which Rajen conveyed that he was being threatened by some police personnel in uniform and some civil dressed persons before hanging up the phone.
On September 28, the wife of Rajen and his younger brother went in search of Rajen.
When they reached Howrah, they were informed that a dead body was found near Cossipore Police Station and it was being kept at the morgue.
When they went to the morgue, they found that it was the body of Rajen.
Jiten observed that since there has been some foul play behind the death of Rajen, the Government of Manipur should put pressure on the West Bengal government to investigate into the matter and bring justice to Rajen, failing which a JAC would be formed to take up various intense agitations with the support of other CSOs in the state.
