KNF clarifies over Shantipur shooting

The Kuki National Front (KNF) which had been accused of the April 22 evening Shantipur shooting and extortion incident today clarified its non-involvement in the incident and strongly decried the apprehension and detention of its cadre in connection with the incident.
The outfit JMG member, Rohan Kuki has categorically denied the organization's involvement in the Kanglatongbi Shantipur shooting and extortion incident where a young student of Manipur Public School, Koirengei, Rakesh Shah (17), s/o (L) Dadan Shah sustained bullet injury.
He said the allegations levelled against the front are baseless and an attempt to tarnish the image of the organization.
Ever since the organization arrived at a tripartite agreement with the State and Central Government, it has shunned all sorts of illegal activities like extortion, abduction, etc, Rohan stated.
KNF expressed disappointment over the apprehension and detention of its cadre James Paominthang Singson in connection with the Shantipur incident and strongly denied his involvement in the incident.
Rohan Kuki asserted that investigations were instantly initiated regarding James Paominthang's involvement in the Shantipur shooting and after thorough inquiry the allegations levelled against him were found false and baseless.
While appealing the authority concerned for his unconditional release, Rohan said James Paominthang Singson was granted leave on medical ground and he was with his wife at his Sapormeina residence at the time of his arrest.
Meanwhile, Nengkhohoi alias Hoinu Singson, wife of James Paominthang Singson also expressed her discontentment over the allegations levelled against her husband.
She said Assam Rifles personnel came to their rented residence at Salem village in Sapormeina on April 26 at around midnight and arrested James.
She further clarified that James was attending a marriage ceremony at KBC Centre Church, Salem Sapormeina on April 22 .
While denying the allegations charged against her husband, Hoinu Singson said James had nothing to do with the Shantipur incident.
Appealing for the unconditional release of her husband, Hoinu said she has video clips of the marriage function to prove James's non involvement in the Shantipur incident.
