Imphal, September 28 2010: Participated by representatives of various communities, the 10th Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Day observance was held today at Manipur Dramatic Union hall where troupes of different ethnic communities/tribes also staged cultural items.

The observance function hosted by Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (Amkil) was held with Amkil chairman Mutum Ibemhal, Kuki Inpi president Wangkhothang Kilong, Zeliangrong union advisor R Chandra Haomei, Komrem union Manipur president JL Karong kom and social activist Md Rajauddin as the presidium members.

speaking at the occasion, Mutum Ibemhal stressed on the need to not only appreciate the positive endeavours of each and every community but work in a cohesive manner so that all the elements inimical to the unity of the people could be weeded out from the society.

Alleging that among those forces plotting to create divisions within the Manipuri society the Government agencies are involved and responsible for the present day chaos and confusion, she called upon the people to act in a mature manner rather than jump at conclusion that would impede restoration of peace in the state.

In his address, Md Rajauddin cited rampant corruption in the State as the main deterrent to the path towards forging unity and integrity, and desired that the Government take a more pro-active role to eradicate the menace of corruption from the society.

Commenting on the issue of unity and integrity in Manipur, Kuki Inpi president Wangkhothang said apart from spreading the message of peace and solidarity it is equally vital that everybody remember their place of origin/birthplace and the inherent relationships amongst the ethnic group of people.

Once the people realise where they belong and understand each other's sentiments and aspirations the phrase 'unity and integrity' would be irrelevant, kilong opined.

In his comment, Zeliangrong Union advisor R Chandra Haomei rued that the common people have to endure all sorts of inconveniences as a consequence of frequent bandhs and blockades and suggested that the Government not only construct and develop the highways to cope with the growing demands but also ensure safe passage of goods and passenger carriers.

Representatives of the Nupi Samaj, UCM, Kabui mothers' Association and Kuki Women's Union also spoke at the occasion during which they accused the State Government of being indifferent to suffering of the masses.

They also advocated development of both the hill and valley areas in an egalitarian manner so that no section of the society feels deprived or alienated.
