Imphal, September 23, 2009: As part of the drive to strictly implement safety norms being carried out by the Imphal West Traffic Control Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Ms Victoria Yengkhom, MPS has announced that those offenders of traffic rules will be fined as per the rates specified by the government.

A press note issued by the Dy SP (Traffic) today informed that the drive is being carried out by the Imphal West Traffic Control Police to check the incidents of road mishaps.

The rates of fines had been fixed by the state government which had been published in the Manipur Gazette dated the 8th May, 2006. Any offender will be strictly dealt with as per the rules, she announced.

Under the category of general provision for punishment of offences (driving without helmet, etc) under penal section 177 of Motor Vehicle Act (MYA), the first time offender will be fined Rs 100, the second time offender will be fined Rs 150.Likewise, Rs 200 and Rs 300 will be fined for the third and the subsequent offences respectively.

Under the disobedience of orders, obstruction and refusal of information under section 179 MVA, the first time offender will be fined Rs 300, the second time offender will be fined Rs 400 and the third time and subsequent offender will be fined Rs 500.Anyone who violates section 180 MVA (allowing unauthorized persons to drive vehicles) will be fined Rs 400 for the first time, Rs 800 and Rs 1000 will be fined for the second, third and subsequent of fence.

Those who drive vehicles in contravention of section 3 or section 4 will be fined Rs 400 for the first time under penal section 181 MVA.

The second, third time and subsequent offender will be fined Rs 400 and Rs 500.For offences relating to license under penal section 182(1)MVA, a sum of Rs 400 will be fined for the first offence and Rs 450 and Rs 500 will be fined for the second, third and subsequent offence.

For offences under penal section 182 (2)MVA, a sum of Rs 100 will be fined, whether for the first time, second time or third time offence.

Those who drive dangerously and talk on mobile phone will be fined Rs 400 for the first offence, Rs 600 for the second, Rs 800 and Rs 1000 for the third and subsequent offence under penal section 184 MVA.

Those who drive when mentally or physically unfit to drive will be fined Rs 400 for the first offence, Rs 450 and Rs 500 for the second, third and subsequent offence under penal section 186 MVA.

Those who use vehicle in unsafe position will be fined Rs 500 for the first offence, Rs 700, Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 for the second, third and subsequent offence under section 190 (2) MVA.

Any person who use vehicle without registration will be fined Rs 2000 for the first offence, and Rs 3000, Rs 4000 and Rs 5000 for the second, third and subsequent offence under section 192 MVA, Ms Victoria announced.
