Gypsy robbed from Pradhan's residence

Suspected security personnel robbed a Maruti Gypsy off Lairenjam-Meijrao Gram Panchayat Pradhan Sougrakpam Manihar.
The gypsy kept at the Pradhan's Irom Meijrao Maning Leikai residence, Imphal West district under Wangoi police station was robbed away at gun point at around 11.50 pm of February 17.According to Pradhan Manihar, three out of the unknown armed persons were clad in civilian fatigue while the rest wore camouflage uniforms.
They came in four jeeps including two Gypsy's and a Tata Sumo fitted with aerial.
Some of them spoke Hindi while a few others spoke Manipuri.
They sneaked in and called his name but he did give any response.
In the meantime, one family member returned home and it was at his calling Manihar went out.
On seeing Manihar, the armed persons demanded the key of his Gypsy.
Next they demanded the RC book of the vehicle.
But the RC book was not given as it could not located at the moment.
Even though the RC book was spared, Manihar was forced sign on a paper of A4 size at gun point.
They left behind Manihar saying, "you too could have been taken along but we would not do that for you are working for people," the Pradhan recounted.
On hearing ignition sound of the Gypsy, Manihar ran out and requested the armed to leave behind his Gypsy.
At this, the armed persons asked Manihar to come along with RC book next day.
Saying that they would ring up Manihar, they took a mobile phone number and went away.
But there was no phone call next day following which a report was filed at Wangoi police station.
The Gypsy was bought from one M Nutankumar of Yairipok Bamon Leikai who in turn bought it from army at an auction.
The Gypsy was kept for repairing in an automobile workshop for almost a year and it was brought back only on February 15 .
Meanwhile, taking strong exception to the act robbing the Gypsy at gun point, local womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Irom Meijrao today.
