Recoveries outnumber new cases, fatality remains high
Covid-19 claims 15 more lives; 554 found positive out of 7958 samples tested; daily positivity rate declining

Imphal, June 12 2021: The number of patients who recuperated from Covid-19 outnumbered fresh cases on Saturday as the government bulletins reported 554 infections compared to a healthy 751 single day recoveries.

However, fatality rate remains high as 15 death cases were reported on Saturday including a 25-year-old woman.

The 554 new cases were detected from among 7958 samples tested in the last 24 hours, which presented a positivity rate of 6.96 per cent.

Daily positivity rate remains below 10 for five consecutive days since Tuesday.

The total active cases have reached 8710 out of which 3607 are in home isolation and the remaining 5103 undergoing treatment in different healthcare facilities including district hospitals and Covid Care Centres.

At least 389 patients are on oxygen support and 46 patients on ventilator support as per report released on Friday night.

However, the report does not mention the number of patients on oxygen and ventilator support in JNIMS and I-land hospital.

Since the beginning of the current year, the state has logged 31,134 positive cases and 604 death cases.

The current month has recorded 8571 new cases and 152 fatalities of which 4915 new cases and 87 fatalities were reported in the last seven days.

The State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 15 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Out of them, 10 victims were under 60 years of age.

Younger victims included a 25-year-old woman from Imphal West district with history of kidney transplant and hypothyroidism, a 34-year-old man from Imphal West with history of Type 2 diabetes, a 37-year-old man from Imphal West another aged 40 years from the same district with no co-morbidities.

Of the victims, seven others also did not have co-morbid conditions.

The district wise fatalities are Imphal West (4), Imphal East (3), Thoubal (3), Bishnupur (2), Kakching (1) and Churachandpur (2).Four died at Shija Hospitals, two each at JNIMS, Raj Medicity & DH Churachandpur, and one each at RIMS, CMC, home isolation, DH Thoubal, and CCC Moreh.

The cumulative number of deaths is 959.According to official reports, all the 554 new cases (298 male & 256 female) are from among the general population and their samples were tested at RIMS (14), JNIMS (20), District Hospitals (382) and other testing centres (138).The positive cases are from Imphal East (118), Imphal West (171), Thoubal (73), Bishnupur (35), Kakching (19), Ukhrul (1), Churachandpur (54), Chandel (14), Senapati (17), Tamenglong (7), Tengnoupal (10), Kangpokpi (12), Pherzawl (2) and Jiribam (21).All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

Out of the 751 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, 535 were in home isolation, 28 at RIMS, 11 at JNIMS and 177 in other Covid care facilities.

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 59,322 (general population - 55,554 and CAPF personnel - 3,768) .

Number of recovered cases is 49,653 (general population - 45,892 and CAPF personnel - 3,761) and number of active cases is 8,710 (general population - 8,708 and CAPF personnel - 2) .

The recovery rate is 83.70 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 1454 D-type Oxygen cylinders and 434 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities.

District Hospitals and government institutions have 412 D and 94 B filled cylinders and the district/sub-division wise stock position is Bishnupur (65D, 7B), Chandel (31D, 7B), Churachandpur (85D, 0B), Senapati (32D, 0B), Thoubal (57D, 20B), Ukhrul (32D, 0B), Tamenglong (42D, 21B), Jiribam (34D, 10B), Moreh (8D, 2B), Kamjong (3D, 1B), Kangpokpi (5D, 0B), Kakching (10D, 24B), Noney (2D, 0B) and Pherzawl (6D, 2B) .

As on Friday, 4,64,465 individuals have been vaccinated against Covid-19 and out of them, 81,483 persons have got their second shot.

Only 7005 doses including 140 second doses were administered in 86 sessions on Friday.

Meanwhile, 28 new positive cases have been detected out of 135 samples tested in Kakching district on Saturday.

Two of them were detected at Ema Hospital, six at Jivan Hospital and 20 at government RAT Centre.

All of them are residents of Kakching district.

In Tengnoupal district, five new cases were detected on Saturday.

Only one case out of 117 samples was detected during mass testing while the remaining four cases were detected out of 23 samples tested at sub-district hospital Moreh.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (21,079), Imphal East (13,698), Thoubal (4712), Churachandpur (4541), Kangpokpi (1551), Tamenglong (1916), Bishnupur (3386), Senapati (1314), Ukhrul (1201), Kakching (2647), Chandel (994), Noney (536), Tengnoupal (593), Jiribam (633), Kamjong (428) and Pherzawl (93).Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (357), Imphal East (257), Thoubal (91), Churachandpur (76), Kangpokpi (23), Tamenglong (8), Bishnupur (60), Senapati (4), Ukhrul (13), Kakching (46), Chandel (13), Noney (2), Tengnoupal (4), Jiribam (2), Kamjong (3) and Pherzawl (0) .

For the record, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs of some districts.

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 19,118 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 21,123 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 2,60,452 tests per million population against the national average of 2,70,128 TPM.

Case fatality rate rose to 1.62 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, 7958 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 6.96 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate stands at 7.34 per cent.
