Thoubal, October 07 2024:
Calling for the safe release of Akoijam Angou (57) who was allegedly abducted by unknown miscreants on September 30, locals and family members staged a sit-in protest at Thoubal Awang Leikai Community Hall today.
Angou hails from Thoubal Awang Leikai Sanjembam Leirak but resides at Haobam Marak Chingtham Leikai under Singjamei PS .
He was allegedly abducted by three unidentified individuals in a black Bolero from the vicinity of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School in Uripok around 6 pm as Angou reportedly left home to fetch his youngest daughter from a coaching centre.
Expressing distress as the 57-year old man has remained untraceable for the eighth day, his mother Akoijam Sanahanbi, has appealed for her son's safe return in the interest of his two young daughters.
Meanwhile, Thoubal Awangleikai Meira Paibi representative Budhimati demanded to know the identity of the people responsible for allegedly abducting Akoijam Angou.
In the midst of the protracted conflict, she appealed against such unfortunate acts which create tension and doubts in the minds of the people.
Urging for Angou's unconditional release on humanitarian grounds, Budhimati cautioned that an intense people's agitation might emerge otherwise.
Condemning Angou's alleged abduction, the protestors wielded many placards with messages such as "Who abducted Angou?", "What are the motives for abduction?" and "Release Angou in the interest of his family and children" among others.
