Moirang, September 01 2024:
Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Premchandra should resign on moral ground, said Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee days after the MLA was given a penalty by the High Court of Manipur for "wasting" the Court's time.
The High Court had imposed a penalty of Rs 30,000 on MLA S Premchandra while rejecting an application he filed calling for dismissal of an election petition filed by Ahanthem Shanjoy Singh challenging the result of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Elections 2022 with regards to 29-Kumbi AC.
It may be noted that S Premchandra had emerged victorious in the election on a BJP ticket while Ahanthem Shanjoy secured the second highest number of votes on a JD(U) ticket.
While a petition was filed by Ahanthem Shanjoy alleging discrepancies in the affidavits MLA S Premchandra filed during the nomination for the election, the MLA had filed an application to dismiss the petition against him on the ground that the case was "unreasonable and non-maintainable".
Speaking to reporters at his residence at Kumbi Setupur, Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee general secretary (Organisation), Anand Wahengbam asserted that the MLA, instead of facing the case against him, had filed the application seeking the petition's dismissal.
If there had been no discrepancies in the affidavits he filed for the elections, the MLA shouldn't have filed the application.
He should have faced the case against him with conviction, Anand said.
The MLA's action of filing the application, which the Court has rejected, has caused confusion among the people of the Constituency.
He should resign as an MLA on moral ground, he said.
