The 40th World Earth Day was observed today at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur under the joint aegis of the Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, MPCB Chairman E Dwijamani underscored the need to know about environment and to protect the same.
Highlighting the crucial importance of sustainable development in order to protect environment, Dwijamani said that all should take lead roles in controlling pollution.
Recalling the genesis of World Earth Day, Th Purnimashi said that Earth Day was first observed in 1963 in the USA after which it was celebrated as World Earth Day on April 22 from 1970 .
Everyone should contribute their mite in protecting the environment starting at the personal and family levels, she asserted.
MLA of Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency Lokeshore Singh and Principal of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School graced the function as president and guest of honour respectively.
