Imphal, September 01 2013:
While raising doubts at the border fencing being used as a ploy to disintegrate the cordial relationship between Manipur and Myanmar in the backdrop of Look East Policy, President of Indo-Myanmar Fraternal Alliance (IMFA) RK Shivachandra has urged the Central and State Governments to make the international norms for border fencing clear to the people.
Addressing media persons at his Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai residence here today, Shivachandra said that Myanmar is not only an important trade partner, but also shares a long history of more than 2000 years with Manipur.
The Government should take active initiative to settle the border dispute amicably without affecting the friendly relationship between the two countries.
The Government should not disintegrate the territorial integrity of the State.
MLAs and Ministers should also make an assessment of the border issues rather making speculations.
The people must also take the responsibility to safeguard the territorial integrity and uphold the friendly ties with the Myanmarese people, he exhorted.
