Man arrested for misleading video clip on vaccination

Imphal, May 29 2021:
Mayang Imphal Police arrested a person on the charge of posting a misleading video on Covid vaccination on the social media.
The arrested person has been identified as Haobam Tikendrajit alias Ibomcha (40) son of (L) H Chaoba Singh of Uchiwa Leirak Achouba.
In a release, Imphal West SP K Meghachandra informed that Tikendrajit was vaccinated with Covishield at a vaccination centre on Friday and he secretly filmed vaccination of another person on his mobile phone.
He then posted the video clip on the social media with a message that the vaccine was not injected.
Consequently, the video clip was widely shared and circulated on social media platforms including Whatsapp and Facebook by thousands of people.
It made the general public to believe that the medical staff in the vaccinating centre were not injecting the vaccine and they were just pretending to give the injection when there is nothing in the syringe.
Because of his act the medical staffers have to endure false charges of manipulation and wrongful deeds and they were also intimidated from various quarters.
The efforts of the government to curb the Covid -19 pandemic was also severely affected as the rate of vaccination at many centres reduced considerately on Saturday as many people lost faith in the vaccination, Meghachandra pointed out, while adding that Tikendrajit's notoriety affected the on-going vaccination programme, demoralised the front-line workers and made the frontline workers vulnerable to obstruction, threat, intimidation and risk to their lives In this regard a report was submitted by State Mission Director NHM Manipur Dr N Shamyai.
Subsequently, a case was registered at Mayang Imphat PS and Tikendrajit was arrested by a team of Mayang Imphal Police Station.
One mobile handset (MI Note 8) along with a Jio sim card has been seized from the accused person, the SP continued, while urging the people not to spread false information on the various measures taken up by the government to contain the Covid-19 pandemic and not to believe false and misleading information without proper verification.
