World Tourism Day celebrated widely

As observed across the globe, World Tourism Day was celebrated widely in the State on Friday to raise awareness about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value.
Manipur University
The Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development (DVSSD), Manipur University marked World Tourism Day 2024 with a vibrant celebration focused on the theme, "Tourism and Peace".
Prof W Chandbabu Singh, Registrar, Manipur University; Prof A Rajmani Singha, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Prof Th Purnima Devi, Dean, School of Social Sciences and Head of DVSSD graced the event as presidium members.
The celebration began with a welcome & keynote address by Dr Irengbam Rubita, Assistant Course Coordinator of DVSSD.
Addressing the gathering, Prof W Chandbabu emphasized the crucial role of tourism in fostering peace and harmony in the region.
"Without peace, tourism cannot flourish, and without tourism, our development will stall", he said.
He also called upon every citizen to embrace their responsibility in promoting tourism, highlighting that individual actions contribute to a peaceful environment that attracts visitors.
Prof A Rajmani encouraged participants to delve deeper into the State's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, which can enhance tourism opportunities.
Paonam Prem, General Manager of Yaiphaba Hotel, spoke about the expansive potential of the hospitality industry in Manipur.
He outlined the necessary steps to elevate the State as a prominent tourist destination, which includes investing in quality service and sustainable practices.
Prof Th Purnima Devi highlighted how fostering an inclusive tourism environment can serve as a bridge to greater social cohesion.
In addition to the dignitaries, all faculty members of DVSSD namely Dr Nambram Amulkumar, Dr M Nirmal Kumar Singh, Dr Seram Suresh kumar Singh, Dr Puyam Dhlendro Singh, Dr Rabichand Thongam, Wahengbam Jotin Singh, Dr Kangjam Mukhara Devi, Dr Sanjenbam Sanjibia Devi and Suchitra Hijam actively participated in the event, enriching the discussions with their academic perspectives.
The event saw active participation from around 100 BVoc and MVoc students, showcasing their enthusiasm for tourism and skill development.
The highlight of the day included the recognition of winners from the Spot Painting Competition held on September 26, 2024, under the same theme.
Cash awards and appreciation certificates were presented to the winners of the competition namely Mayanglambam Jackson Singh, Department of Fine Arts( 1 st); Athokpam Maipaksana Meitei, Department of Fine Arts (2nd) and Mutum Bibikananda Singh, Department of Anthropology (3rd).The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr Huidrom Jiten Kumar Singh, Coordinator of World Tourism Day 2024 Observation.
Notably, the event also featured cultural performances, discussions on sustainable practices, and a commitment to building a harmonious community through tourism.
Manipur Tourism
Manipur Tourism in association with the State Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition Manipur (SIHM), celebrated World Tourism Day 2024 with a painting competition on the theme "Tourism and Peace" today at the office of the Directorate of Tourism, Government of Manipur.
The event brought together 30 students from SIHM to showcase their creative talents and imagination.
At the event, Oinam Indira Chanu, Deputy Director (Tourism), Manipur said, "We celebrate the power of tourism to promote peace and understanding among us all.
This year's theme, 'Tourism and Peace', resonates deeply with our mission to showcase the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Manipur to the world.
We recognize the role that responsible tourism plays in fostering peace and reconciliation, breaking down barriers and building bridges of understanding".
Officials of Manipur Tourism along with representatives of the Manipur Association of Tour Operators (MATO) also had a meeting to discuss matters regarding promotion of the tourism industry of Manipur.
Kh Amarjit, Senior Finance Officer (Tourism), Manipur and Nivaran Nongmaithem, President, MATO also spoke on the occasion.
IDS
With a view to uncover the tourism potentials of Toubul, the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Manipur and the Administrative Committee, Toubul Gram Panchayat observed World Tourism Day at the Panchayat Lake, Toubul on Friday.
It was graced by Bishnupur DPC, Bungba Maibam; IDS Chairman, Prof N Mohendro Singh; Nambol BDO, Tongbram Shyamkumar; Toubul Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee, Chairman, Thokchom Ningthemmani Singh and Thangjam Agro Industries, Managing Director, Thangjam Joykumar Singh as presidium members.
At the event, the dignitaries elaborated on the rich culture & historical relevance of Toubul and its potential in agriculture due to the prevalence of fresh water from Loktak lake.
Former Pradhan Wahengbam Borbati Devi and State & National Awardee, David Kamei also spoke on the occasion.
