Three hurt in blast at hospital allegedly by IRB personnel

Imphal, August 21 2009: An IRB personnel triggering a bomb at a private hospital located only 100 meter away from City police station Friday and wounded to at least three people including a minor boy was apprehended by police commandos and IRB personnel on duty at that time of blasting the bomb.

The apprehended personnel who was apprehended as activist of KCP(MC) was identified as Takyenjam Munal (35) son of late Tomcha of Kamu Ching Yambem Leikai serving as rifleman of the 2nd IRB under rif.

The blast took place at about 6.28 am during curfew relaxation hour in front of the Chamber of Commerce Hospital, a private hospital located only around 100 meter away from the Imphal city police station.

The post of the Bazar unit of the police commando also located between the hospital and state Assembly complex.

Curfew was relaxed for 14 hour from 4 am to 6 am in both the Imphal east and west districts with the improvement of public orders in the wake of people agitation against fake encounter.

Today's attack to the hospital was the second time in the recent time.

Suspected underground had carried out a failed attack to the same hospital on August 15, the day heavy security deployment was witnessed in the Imphal city for the Independence Day celebration.

In the blast eight year-old boy named Gudu Jain son of SK Jain of Thangal Bazar sustained splinter injury at the right hand and at the leg.

Other injured persons were identified as Thokchom Tomba (45) son of ningthoubi of Kongba Laishram Leikai and Md Lehreruddin (18) son of Jaheruddin of Keirou Awang Leikai.

The conditions of all the injured persons were out of dangers.

They were treating at the same hospital, Chamber of Commerce.

The two injured persons, Tomba and Lehreruddin were staying at the hospital attending their relative patients.

Eyewitness account said that this morning one of two youths coming on a motor step down from the motor they come with and hurled a hand grenade took out from his pocket toward the hospital.

Within a second the bomb went off with a laud sound.

Some persons nearby the hospital alarmed the people by shouting and chased after the two youths.

The IRB personnel in civil dress who allegedly run away after hurling the bomb when chased after by the people was apprehended by the personnel of the 3rd IRB and police commandos personnel on duty at Dharamsala.

Even though he fell to the hand of the security personnel people started attacking him till police took away him on a gypsy vehicle.

In a statement issued by the Imphal west senior SP, L Kailun said that during interrogation, police came to know that he had exploded the bomb on the instruction of one Ibungo of KCP(MC) which he received through one Abe at Sanakeithel area on August 18 last.

He also got Rs 5000 from Abe as charge for performing the work.

He was also involved in the hurling of the a bomb at Shanti Hospital on July 27 and Langol View on July 28, expressed the statement adding that both the works were also carried out with the instruction of Ibungo.

The senior SP further stated that necessary departmental action has been started initiating and the case is also being investigated while expressing appreciation to the assistance provided by the locals in the apprehension and identification of the culprit.

He further appealed to the public to assist the police in identification of culprits and control of such crime in future.
