Green Foundation inspects

A team from Green Foundation carried out inspection of fanners' organic fields at Konthoujam and Kangmong under Imphal West district today.
The team was led by U Himmat, CEO, Green Foundation; Dr M Thoithoi, advisor, Green Foundation and Dr VY Deoghare, Deputy Director, Regional Centre for Organic and Natural Farming.
During their visit, the farmers shared that organic farming is more beneficial than farming with the use of chemical fertilizers and urged people to adopt this farming method.
During the inspection, Dr VY Deoghare said that the Regional Centre for Organic and Natural Farming is providing low-cost, locally-based organic certification to farmers under the Participatory Centre for Organic System for India (PGS-I) .
The Deputy Director said that farmers who have received this certification will be permitted to sell their organic produce in different parts of the country.
Addressing Green Foundation's efforts to make farmers adopt organic farming, U Himmat said that initially farmers harboured apprehensions concerning decline in crop yield upon shifting from farming using urea and chemical fertilizers.
However, Green Foundation assured to compensate them in such cases and convinced them to adopt organic farming, he shared.
The Green Foundation CEO shared their goal of spreading organic farming in Manipur to produce quality food crops throughout the year and to improve the general public's health.
Meanwhile, Dr M Thoithoi expressed hope that the success story of organic farming will bring a revolution among the farmers in the State.
