Imphal, September 08, 2009: Leaders and workers of the Manipur People Party today joined a sit-in protest staged at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai to register a strong protest against booking of the party general secretary Yumnam Khemchand under National Security Act (NSA).

Khemchand, the general secretary of MPP was arrested by police on September 4 on the charge of firing his licensed revolver on the night of September 3 allegedly causing panic to the people at Singjamei Bazar.

Police charged of misusing his license gun and attempt to life of other received strong objection from the MPP who justified that he had fired the gun on suspicion of some miscreants trying to intrude his house.

In the sit-in protest organized by the MPP, Singjamei Kendra Committee, party leaders like president Dr Nimaichand, senior leader, O Joy, former MLA, L Jatra etc.

took part.

They protested against the act of police arresting person whenever they wish and booking under NSA, MPP protest against misuse of law by the government, no reason for booking MPP general secretary under NSA.

Speaking to the reporters, president Nimaichand blamed the government of detaining its official under NSA on the charge of misusing his license gun.

The detention shows that government under the chief minister, O Ibobi is doing whatever they wanted like a dictator.

There had instances of seizure of weapons belonging to outlaw organizations during search operations in the quarters of the MLAs and ministers at Bapupara under the personal supervision of the Y Joykumar.

Not only this, at various occasions, ministers and MLAs had fired guns at Bapupara, arrest of undergrounds staying together with ministers, arrest while trying to take flight at New Delhi with the minister from the airport.

But at that time government did not register cases or book them under NSA, he lamented.

The present SPF government in the state is not for the people, its government of some individuals who earn money to amuse wealth.

Booking of people participating in the democratic forms of protest is not reasonable.

Under the Ibobi's leadership, government is trying to eliminate the Manipuri society, he criticized.

Present Ibobi led government will not last long, it will collapse like that of Hitler rule, it will be topple soon, he said.

O Joy who also attended the protest said, they know that law does not permit shooting gun.

On that Khemchand fired from his license gun.

He had fired the gun on thinking that he was under attack by miscreants.

License gun in one's possession is mean for self protection.

If it cannot be use for self protection, there no value of possessing the gun.

At the same time, if license gun cannot be fired then his license can be cancelled.

Instead of doing that why he has been booked under NSA.

The instance is a politically motivated one, he alleged.

Former MLA L Jatra said the atrocities meted out towards the people by the Ibobi led government are too much.

It is the nature of a government under dictator.

Why, when Ibobi's son in-law Gojen fired gun, he did not booked under NSA.

Ibobi is applying the NSA as per his convenient and using the Act in wrong sense.

MPP will not remain silent in protesting against the wrong use of the Act and will continue agitation till justice is done.
