National Road Safety Month concludes
Transport Dept hosts State Level Half-Marathon

The transport Department, Government of Manipur on Saturday organised a State Level Half-Marathon to mark the end of the National Road Safety Month, which was observed from January 1 to 31, 2025, under the theme," Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Suraksha".
The marathon was flagged off by Transport Minister Khashim Vashum from the City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang, Imphal.
At the event, Khashim Vashum said, "Today it is an absolute honor to stand before as we bring to a close of our month-long celebration of National Road Safety Month, and what better way to conclude this important initiative than with the enthusiasm, energy, and spirit of today's marathon run.
This event has truly been a remarkable way to raise awareness, promote safety, and highlight the importance of protecting every life on our roads".
Appreciating the people who had participated in the month-long observation, the Minister said, "Whether you've attended our educational programs, taken part in media interaction programs, programs on safety drives, or advocated for change, your efforts have made a tremendous impact in spreading the message of road safety".
He continued that road safety is not just about the numbers, it's about making sure that no family, no friend and no community has to endure the grief of losing a loved one to a preventable accident.
"As we close this month-long celebration, let us remind ourselves that road safety is not a one-time effort or a singular event.
Let us make it a daily commitment, a mindset, and a responsibility we must all share" added the Minister.
Over 200 runners participated in the half-marathon organised in collaboration with State Bank of India, District Administration Imphal West and Imphal East, State Police Department, Traffic Police, Health Department, Youth Affairs & Sports Department, Indian Red Cross Society Manipur State Branch, Athletic Association of Manipur and NE brothers.
Later, a closing ceremony of the National Road Safety Month, 2025 observance was held at City Convention Centre, Imphal.
The ceremony was graced by dignitaries, including Khashim Vashum; Rajiv Singh, DGP, Manipur; Okendra Singh Khumukcham, Regional Manager, RBO, SBI, Imphal; and Michael Achom, Secretary (Transport), Government of Manipur.
During the ceremony, the Transport Department facilitated Ahanthem Subhash Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal for his efforts in the implementation of the Hit & Run Motor Accident Compensation Scheme, 2022 in Thoubal district and in doing so becoming the first DC in the State to help victims of hit & run obtain the benefits of the said scheme.
Further, various prizes were also awarded to the winners of the State Level Half-Marathon event for both men and women category.
Kh Romajit of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai secured first place in the men's category while Tayenjam Russia Chanu of Ngairangbam Makha Leikai took the top Spot in the women's category.
Prizes were also distributed for the winners of State Level Quiz Competition and Painting competition.
