Imphal, September 22 2016:
Due process has been initiated to construct RCC bridges in place of the existing Barak and Makru bridges of Imphal-Jiribam highway.
After the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) sanctioned around Rs 100 crore, National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has initiated due tender process for construction of RCC bridges, informed a source.
The existing Barak and Makru bridges are quite worn out and they break down every now and then thereby crippling movement of heavy vehicles along Imphal-Jiribam highway.
While the State PWD is in charge of the road from Wahengbam Leikai to Oriental'' College, the remaining portion of Imphal-Jiribam highway is under the care of BRO.
Nonetheless, construction of RCC bridges in place of the existing Barak and Makru bridges has been entrusted to NHIDCL.
NHIDCL is likely to open financial bids within the current financial year regarding the tender for construction of the two bridges.
The estimated cost of the two bridges is Rs 100 crore approximately; Rs 60 crore for Barak bridge and Rs 40 crore for Makru bridge.
If there is no impedance to the tender process, the bridge construction works are likely to be started within the forthcoming working season, conveyed the source.
