Teachers decry Govt notification

Imphal, May 21 2016 : The All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA), has decried the notification regarding the amended Academic Performance Indicator (API) notified by the Government of India on May 17 .

AMCTA, in a statement issued by its president M Lokendro Singh said it condemns the amendment of API.

The Government of India has done just opposite of what was required to be done, he said.

All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO) who has been demanding the constitution of the VII Pay Review Committee for university and college teachers of the country has urged the Government of India to withdraw the notification concerning API at the earliest.

AIFUCTO, in a statement issued by its general secretary today strongly condemned the amendment notification.

Teachers' federations like AIFUCTO and FEDCUTA were not taken into confidence by the Government concerning the amendment, it said.

"Arun Nigvekar Committee has done an extremely bad job and the Government of India have committed a blunder by notifying the amended API without threadbare discussion with teachers representatives", AIFUCTO said.

The Government has done big injustice to the teachers working in colleges and universities across the Country, it stated.

There will be increase in the work load of all the teachers in universities and colleges with the amended API.

Workload at the level of Assistant Professor will be increased up to 50 per cent, it said.

The notification demonstrates the mindset of the Government of India.

If the matter had been discussed with teachers representatives, such a situations could have been avoided, it added.

The teaching community was already in distress over the delay in the constitution of the VII Pay Review Committee.

The notification concerning the amendment of API has aggravated the distress.

The president and general secretary of AIFUCTO further questioned why the Government of India believe that colleges all over the Country have better research facilities than universities? The answer, they stated, can only justify the notification.

AIFUCTO is of the view that scraping the API is the only way out.

AIFUCTO demands the Government to withdraw the notification in the larger interest of the teachers and hold discussions with the representatives of teachers' federations for fresh notification.

AIFUCTO will decide its future course of action in its proposed NEC meeting on June 25 and 26 to be held at Dehradun (Uttrakhand) if the notification is not revoked at the earliest.

AMCTA representatives will be joining the said meeting.
