Farmers' training programme

A one-day farmers' training programme on 'Integrated Crop Production and Rejuvenation of Old Mandarin Orchard' for Tamei and Tousem blocks conducted today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound under the sponsorship of Horticulture Department.
Inaugurating the workshop as the chief guest, Hill Areas Committee Vice Chairman Z Kikhonbou Newmai observed that conducting such workshops on a regular basis would have significant impact on enhancing orange cultivation in Tamenglong district, particularly in orange producing areas like Tamei and Tousem sub-divisions.
Even though Tamei and Tousem have suitable soil and climatic conditions to grow orange the farmers need to regularly update on information about orange cultivation, said the Tamei AC MLA suggesting that the farmers of Tamenglong district take advantage of huge land size by widening orange cultivation and other agricultural activities to achieve economic independence.
Confiding that agricultural as well as horticulture projects worth crores of rupees would be implemented in 19-20 villages of Tamenglong district in the coming months, Kikhonbou said the farmers need to be hard-working and sincere to reap the fruit of labour.
As resource persons of the technical session, Dr RK Dilip Singh and Dr Kh Ibohal Singh of CAU deliberated on 'orchard floor management in Mandarin orange', technique for insect pest management in citrus orchard', 'canopy management & calendar of operation' and 'diseases of citrus and their management under north East Agro Climatic condition' .
