Ukhrul, April 12 2020:
Amid the ongoing lockdown, essential commodities, particularly Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) rice were sold at a cheap price to ensure the availability of foodgrain in every home of economically backward families in the district.
Each family were allowed to purchase 10 kg of rice.
The rice was evenly marketed at two different shops at Wino Bazar and Viewland, Ukhrul respectively.
According to reports, the District Administration had arranged around 75 quintals of OMSS rice during morning time, however, due to high public demand for rice, another 75 quintals were also arranged in consultation with the MLA concerned to meet the public demand.
Altogether 150 quintals of rice were sold in a single day during curfew relax hours.
Foodgrains were sold in two phases, i.e morning and evening to avoid mass gathering.
The Government officials and police personnel closely monitored the buyers to ensure that they adhere to the social distancing rule.
Meanwhile, MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam along with AHTA officers also inspected the market areas to ensure that every buyer gets their due shares of rice.
Almost fifteen thousands households of Ukhrul town were provided 10 kg of OMSS rice at the rate of Rs 25 per kilogram.
