DGBR reviews BRO's work progress
Assures NH-37 work completion by 2013 & border fencing by 2014

Along with the assurance of completing the repairing work on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) by the end of 2013, Lt General S Ravi Shankar, Director General Border Roads (DGBR) has asserted that the work of erecting fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border on Manipur side would be completed by December 2014 .
Talking to mediapersons during his brief stopover at the 25 BRTF camp, Lamphelpat here today, Shankar, who was on his way to Aizawal, maintained that Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been paying keen interest in repairing of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) and observed that he was certain that the road development work would be completed by December next year.
Elaborating on the inconveniences being faced during the road repairing work in Manipur, the DGBR observed that in addition to long rainy season and short working season, the slow progress of work has been further compounded by the large number of loaded trucks plying along NH-37 .
"Around 700 different vehicles ply on this road every day and this also disrupts the work.
Non-availability of sufficient sand and stones are also important factors contributing to delay in the development work.
Buying stone from private owned quarries consumes more money and time as well.
Whenever there is requirement of sand, the BRTF is buying it from Nagaland", he said.
Nonetheless, the authority concerned is trying its level best to keep the work in progress and at the same time routine inspection is being conducted by a Monitoring Committee of BRO every two months, he said.
The DGBR further noted almost 70 percent of the repairing work is quite necessary to finish prior to black topping and that the road should also be completely dry for the same purpose.
750 labourers are presently being engaged for the road development work and it is under progress.
Talking about Indo-Myanmar Friendship road, he informed that the BRO has already completed work along the 160- km long Tamu-Kyigone-Kalewa road, of which 132 km-long stretch of Tamu-Kyigone-Kalemyo has already been handed over to Myanmar PWD and the resurfacing work along the remaining 26 km is under progress and the entire work is planned to be completed during this financial year.
On border fencing, the DGBR said that the work is progressing well.
"25 BRTF is erecting fencing over a distance of the 10 km along Indo-Myanmar border on Manipur side.
40 percent work has already been completed and target has been set to complete the border fence within December 2014", he disclosed.
Furthermore, the DGBR informed that rehabilitation work being carried out between 125 km and 185 km Churachandpur-Tipaimukh road is under progress while the work along Singhat-Sinzawl-Tuivai river road will start very shortly as it is now in the execution stage following persistent efforts by BRO.
The 170.88 km stretch of road from Yangangpokpi to Jessami is to be Double-laned by BRO and the first phase of the work between Ukhrul and Yaingangpokpi (21 kms) has already been commenced and planned for completion in three years.
During the interaction, he also briefed about the important works being carried out by BRO in Nagaland of which the strengthening of 30 km on National Highway-29 is under progress.
The work on Jotsoma Bye Pass is under progress of which 40 percent work has already been completed, he said.
He also disclosed that double laning of Kohima-Jessami road has been approved by the Ministry and the estimate of first 17 km is under preparation.
A total of 200 km road will be resurfaced in the current Financial Year in both the states of Nagaland and Manipur.
The DGBR was very appreciative about the important works being carried out by Project Sewak in Manipur, Nagaland and Myanmar and expressed his satisfaction that all works are progressing as envisaged.
Earlier, on arrival at Tulihal Airport, Imphal, the DGBR was received by Brigadier Arun Joshi, Chief Engineer (Project) Sewak.
After his brief stay at Imphal, during which he reviewed various road development works and also met all ranks of 25 BRTF, the DGBR left Imphal in the afternoon.
