'Awareness on importance of education paramount'

Education Minister Thockchom Radheshyam has sought people support in preserving infrastructure of educational institutions in the State.
He asserted that college and school properties are public property belonging to the citizens specially student fraternity who study in the institutions to gain knowledge.
The Minister was addressing faculties of Presidency College, Motbung today.
He appealed to the people to extend full support to the educational institutions and play a crucial role for the betterment of education.
He stressed on the need for creating awareness on the importance of education as it holds the solutions to all the problems of the society.
Radheshyam also inspected the infrastructural development of the library, girl's common room and the computer laboratory being taken up in the college under RUSA scheme.
He warned the faculties and the people assigned for the construction work to ensure that quality control is maintained.
He assured the faculties that if need arises he will consult with the Engineering Wing of Education.
Lauding the contributions made by the college teachers who have been working hard with a commitment for the betterment of the students, he emphasised the need to provide guidance and counselling to the students in regards to their dreams and aims they want to achieve in life.
The Ministerial team also paid a visit to Motbung Government High School and inspected the hostel located within the premises of the school.
The Minister was informed about the plight of the school like poor infrastructure of the hostel and school building by the Headmistress, teachers and the village authority.
He assured them that all possible help will be extended for the development of the education sector.
The Minister was at Motbung, Kangpokpi district to attend a function of Thanksgiving Day of the Educational Training School (ETS) on getting recognition from the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, established 30 years ago.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, he said that the affiliation of the school with the Board was a genuine need.
He appealed to the people to respect the most important three things in life - the law, religion and old age.
Founder of the ETS, Sk Lunkam, village authorities, teachers, students, locals and civil organisations attended the function.
Memorandums were submitted to the Minister, highlighting the requirement of hostel to accommodate students coming from the interiors of the State.
