Detoxification of addicts in the State drug rehabilitation centres is paralysed considerably due to unavailability of detoxification drug Lobain capsules at the stockist.
Meanwhile, manager of the Lobain manufacturing company, DWD Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mumbai, PP Chatterjee has said that the company has stopped manufacturing of the drug as the Central Government has stopped supplying of raw materials of Detropropoxyphene to its licensed manufacturing companies.
This was conveyed by the manager in a press conference organised by AMADA at its headquarters this afternoon.
Chatterjee said that the Government has stopped supplying of this particular content three months back forcing the company to suspend manufacturing of Lobain capsules for the time being.
Maintaining that his company does not have any idea on the reason behind the dearth of raw materials, Chatterjee assured that the company would try its level best to press the Government to resume the supply of the raw materials.
He also suggested that the State Government can also press the Centre in this regard.
Taking part in the press conference proprietor of Keisham Traders, the stockist of Lobain capsules, K Biren said that DWD Pharmaceuticals had informed the matter to them through a letter received on August 18.Manipur Chemists and Drugists Association (MCDA) in a press release also conveyed the same to the public on August 21, he added.
Biren further said that the manufacturing company stopped supplying of Lobain capsules since May this year.
Stating on the need of this particular capsule by the rehabilitation centres, deputy secretary HRD of AMADA Ningthoukhongjam Bobo informed that the detoxification of the addicts is paralysed considerably in 21 rehabilitation centres of the State due to the unavailability of Lobain.
As a social organisation, Bobo added, AMADA is looking for other alternative drugs by consulting doctors and other rehabilitation centres operating outside the State.
He said that the State rehabilitation centres are curently using multiple drugs to substitute Lobain.
AMADA will also urge the State Government to press the Centre regarding the resumption of supplying of raw materials to the manufacturing company, Bobo added.
