Two deaths take Ukhrul's toll to 13

Ukhrul, May 29 2021:
The second wave of Covid pandemic continued to wreak havoc as two more persons from Ukhrul district succumbed to the virulent infection on Saturday.
This has taken the Covid toll to 13 in the district.
Of the two victims, 54-year-old Redeemson Ramror, a native of Seikhor village, died of the disease at the Covid Isolation Ward of Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) in the morning, while Athan Kashung, 73, passed away at Leishiphung Christian Hospital (LCH) around noon.
Soon after Ramror's death, the district administration granted permission to allow his mortal remains to be taken till his native place for burial on the same day.
Later in the evening, the district magistrate issued an order and declared the residential area of late Athan at Khampasomtang in Ukhrul town, as containment zone.
It is learnt that the deceased was found Covid positive only after being admitted to Leishiphung Christian Hospital.
On the other hand, a source from the district surveillance office (DSO) informed that six fresh Covid positive cases were found from different corners of the district on Saturday.
This included three positive cases which were detected from Tongou/Ringui village and one each from New Canaan village and Viewland Zone III.
One another case was detected during contact tracing, said the source.
With the new six cases, the district's tally of active cases has reached 124, after five patients were discharged from the hospital on Saturday.
Amongst them included 72 inmates currently lodged at Transit Camp CCC, 24 at Jessami CIC, 18 at UDH Isolation Ward, four at Tongou CIC, three at Shangkai CIC, two at Lambui CIC and one at Maichon CIC respectively.
The total cumulative positivity number stands at 357, while a total of 10 cases have been referred out of the district so far, it added.
