Imphal, November 19 2024:
Eramdam Kanba Lup (EKAL) has appealed against steering the people's outrage, which erupted in the wake of the inhumane Jiribam killings, in the wrong direction.
A press release issued by Huiningsumbam Ibohanbi, president, EKAL, made the appeal in connection with the arson at the residence of Khundrakpam AC MLA Thokchom Lokeshwor by miscreants on the night of November 16 .
Stating that the MLA's residential house, significant stock of relief camp items including clothes and consumables, important documents, vehicles and cash went up in flames on the unfortunate day, EKAL claimed that the attack was perpetrated by a rival group of irrational individuals.
EKAL has also demanded appropriate punishment for the culprits who burned down the MLA's house at Sagolmang.
Denouncing the arson, EKAL then recalled that the Opposition MLA had appealed for a proper discussion at the Manipur Legislative Assembly to find a solution to the protracted crisis.
EKAL further condemned the reimposition of AFSPA in the jurisdiction of six police stations and maintained that this shows the Centre's disregard for the State of Manipur.
It added that the ultimate solution is to launch a military flag march against Kuki militants.
If the Centre decides to hold talks with Kuki militants as a means to resolve the crisis, EKAL will stand firmly against such a decision, added the press note.
