Imphal, August 19 2024:
The Kabui Mothers' Association (KAMA) Manipur has strongly refuted the irresponsible statement of the Kabui Union Manipur (KUM) that Kabuis are not Rongmei and the Kabuis were neither Zeliangrong nor Nagas.
"It is a historical fact that the nomenclatures Rongmei & Inpui were given separate recognition in 2012 by the Government of India in its Scheduled Tribes list.
Earlier both of them were clubbed as Kabui.
Besides, many historical facts and records were also found that Kabui and Kacha Naga were separately recognized by the British during the colonial regime only", said KAMA in a release.
KAMA mentioned that people living in the Western Hills of Manipur were collectively known as Kabui prior to the British occupation of Manipur which was inclusive of Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei and Inpui.
"Kabui and Rongmei are names of the same person/ tribe, we are part and parcel of the big Naga family", it added.
KAMA asserted that the association as an apex platform of the Kabui Women Community cannot and will never compromise and allow disintegration & disturbing the integrity of Zeliangrong community in particular and Nagas in general.
KAMA also pointed out that the Zeliangrong elders on April 1, 1934 came together at Tamenglong and performed Chukhubo/Nsuktuaibe/ Chuksumei, the traditional practice of reconciliation among the sibling cognate groups which once for all ceased all forms of hostility, internecine killing, etc among the Zeliangrong cognate groups.
"Consequently, the elders and educated cognate groups i.e.Zeme, Liangmei, Rongmei & Inpui came and formed the Zeliangrong council at Keishamthong Kabui Khul, Imphal on February 15, 1947", it added.
Further, KAMA cautioned KUM to refrain from making such irresponsible statements to create division and confusion among the Kabui/Rongmei/Zeliangrong and Nagas.
