Sought report submitted to MHRC

Thoubal police station and Porompat police station have submitted the necessary status report in response to the Manipur Human Rights Commission's notice to address pending cases of rape and offences related to murder in areas under their jurisdiction.
It may be noted that an MHRC team had found 13 cases relating to rape and 24 cases relating to murder pending investigation at Porompat police station for 10-30 years and 30 cases relating to murder pending at Thoubal police station.
The Commission had registered two suo moto instant complaint cases concerning the delay in investigation in May, 2024, as per orders issued by the MHRC.
According to the status report submitted by SDPO Babitarani (IPS) and OC Porompat police station Jadumani, Porompat PS has completed the investigation of all 13 rape cases and 22 murder cases.
Out of 13 rape cases, charge sheets have been submitted for 4 cases and final reports have been submitted in 9 cases.
With respect to 22 murder cases, charge sheets have been submitted before the appropriate Court in 10 cases while final reports have been submitted for the rest.
With this, the Commission has closed the instant suo-moto complaint case.
On the other hand, S Suraj, Additional SP and Phulchand, OC Thoubal police also submitted their status report which detailed that out of 30 cases, 11 cases relating to offence of murder ranging from 1993 to 2010 have been charge sheeted while 17 cases have been disposed and investigation of the remaining 13 cases are in progress.
In this case, MHRC has listed the matter on August 20 .
Additionally, MHRC has directed the DGP, Manipur to inform all OCs of police stations to complete the investigation of rape cases and murder cases and other cognizable offences at an early date so that citizens can get justice.
