Imphal, June 09 2024:
Saying that the series of violence taking place in Jiribam is due to inadequate deployment of security forces, convenor of Imagi Meira Th Sujata has urged the State Government to control the situation in the border district within 15 days.
Addressing a press briefing at Manipur Press Club today, Sujata continued that the Centre taking the side of Kuki amid the unrest in Manipur is a fact.
Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and BJP State unit president A Sharda Devi are at Delhi when Jiribam is literally burning since a couple of days back and it clearly shows that they give more importance to the interest of their party and their seats of power than resolving the crisis, she rued.

It is also embarrassing that these State leaders are at Delhi ignoring the problems in Jiribam to take part in the celebratory function of Prime Minister Narendra Modi whom they could not meet for years, Sujata said and demanded that the Governor and Chief Minister should return to Manipur as soon as possible and control the situation in Jiribam.
Asking the State Government to refrain from doing whatever the Central leadership want them to do, Sujata asserted that the State Government should not remain silent when the survival of Meeteis itself has been threatened.
She also appealed to the Meeteis in Jiribam to not vacate their places of residence so as to protect them and sought support from Meeteis, Meetei Pangals, Naga people and other communities to resolve the issue in Jiribam.
The Central Government must replace Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh with another efficient official since the former has failed to control the violence in Manipur, she demanded.
President of Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) Lourembam Nganbi said that Jiribam has become a soft target just like Churachandpur and Moreh from where Meeteis were driven out due to security lapses.
Expressing fear that the situation in Jiribam might worsen, Nganbi wondered what the Central security forces were doing when Meetei villages in Jiribam were attacked.
The houses belonging to Meetei families were torched by the Kuki militants after the occupants were relocated to other places by the Central forces, she maintained and claimed that the Indian Government may be scheming to wipe out Meeteis.
The communal riot in Government was ended by the then Modi led Government in only a few days but the same response is not given by the Central Government to the violence in Manipur which has been going on since May 3, 2023, Nganbi said and accused the Centre of letting the Central forces take the side of Kuki militants.
She urged the Central leadership to let the Central forces act impartially and stop the atrocities in Jiribam.
The press briefing was jointly organised by Imagi Meira, Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC), (AMKIL) and Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace (KIKJCCP) .
