Kakching, November 08 2024:
Frequent blockades and general strikes imposed by various organisations along the NH-2 recently have led to shortage of poultry feeds in the State, causing immense hardships to poultry farmers.
Demanding the State Government's intervention to enable passage of stranded feed loaded vehicles by tomorrow, poultry farmers of Kakching and Thoubal districts staged a protest demonstration at the Central Hall of Yumbimacha High School in Kakching today.
It has been reported that shortage of poultry feed has even resulted in the death of poultry birds in many places.
The protestors wielded placards with messages such as "Stop hampering transport of poultry feed", "Government should take measures to uplift poultry farmers" among others.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, poultry farmer Naorem Jugeshwore said that frequent blockades along the two national highways have impacted the livelihood of thousands of poultry farmers in the State.
He stated that blockades along NH-2 in the last 10 or so days by different groups making various demands have led to a significant shortage or scarcity of poultry feed in Manipur.
Due to such circumstances, poultry farmers have suffered large monetary losses which can permanently endanger their livelihood.
In view of these issues, the poultry farmer made an appeal to the State Government to take up concrete measures to facilitate safe passage of the stranded goods vehicles carrying poultry feed into the State from tomorrow itself.
The protesting farmers have also made an appeal to the communities settled along the national highways to refrain from imposing frequent blockades along this route.
