Imphal, May 08 2025: Attaining cum sensitization programme for school teachers of Zone-I & Wangoi on "Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012" was held today at Multipurpose Hall, SCERT, Lamphelpat.

The sensitization programme was jointly organised by the District Administration Imphal West, District Child Protection Unit Imphal West and Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur.

The programme was graced by dignitaries, including K Jadumani Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West; Pabitta Thingbaijam, District Child Protection Officer, Imphal West and Sucheta Khumukcham, ZEO, Zone-I.Thiyam Rajkisjore, Advocate, High Court of Manipur cum Legal Advisor, MCPCR also attended the programme as a resource person.

Speaking on the occasion, K Jadumani said that the programme was conducted with the aim to increase awareness and understanding of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 .

He asserted that the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 prohibits solemnization of marriage where either the groom or the bride is below the marriageable age (18 years in case of girls and 21 years for boys).

Over 50 teachers participated in the programme.
