Imphal, February 04 2025:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has refuted the allegation made by various Manipuri news channels and social media that an FIR has been filed against Ch Ajang Khongsai, the president of Kuki Inpi, over the Lhungjang incident.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur in a release stated that such misinformation appears to be a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of not only Ajang Khongsai but also the Kuki community.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur claimed that it has taken a strong stance against the cultivation of poppy plants in the community, recognizing the serious implications associated with it.
The organization has issued clear directives in the past urging community members to refrain from engaging in poppy cultivation and as a result poppy plantation has "decreased dramatically".
Therefore, portraying the Inpi president as a promoter of poppy cultivation is a severe misrepresentation having malicious intent to serve the "false narrative fostered" by the State Government, stated the KIM.
KIM further stated that Ajang Khongsai is "unaware" of the incident that took place at his native village of Lhungjang on January 31, as he is not currently living in the village and is also out of station due to health-related issues.
As such, in this case, to claim that he participated in the event is an assertion that totally lacks credible evidence and support.
Therefore it is essential to rely on facts and thorough investigations before making judgments, asserted KIM.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur demanded a public apology from these entities in light of the recent incidents involving the spread of "fake news" by various social media platforms and media houses.
The dissemination of misleading information not only damages reputations but also erodes public trust, said KIM.
