CM inaugurates Behiang police station

Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated a police station at Behiang village located close to the India-Myanmar border in Churachandpur district today.
It was his second visit to the village as the Chief Minister.
During his maiden visit on December 19, 2017, N Biren Singh laid the foundation stone for the police station.
Speaking at the inauguration function attended by a large number of people, the Chief Minister said that the police station has been set up understanding the need for security of the people residing at far-flung and interior areas like Behiang.
Apart from it, the Chief Minister said, the location of the village is strategically important as it can serve as the second corridor to South East Asian Nations next to Moreh in the light of Government of India's Act East Policy.
Observing that natural calamity prone States like Manipur always need alternative routes, the Chief Minister said that Imphal-Behiang road (Tiddim road) must be developed as the second route which connects the State with South East Asian countries.
He said that a trade centre would also be developed at Behiang like at Moreh to enhance trade activities with neighbouring Myanmar.
Stating that foundation stone for the police station was laid during his maiden visit to the village on December 19, 2017, Biren said that the most delightful moment for any public leader is when he/she fulfils a promise made to public.
Informing that Churachandpur-Singhat section of Churachandpur-Behiang road is already a National Highway, Biren further said that he had requested the Centre to upgrade the remaining section from Singhat to Behiang to the status of a National Highway as well.
The Chief Minister stated that the State Government had submitted a Rs 100-crore proposal to the Centre to construct a ring road along India-Myanmar border from the last village bordering Mizoram to the last point bordering Nagaland in Ukhrul district.
Stating that it would ease inconvenience in security management as well, the Chief Minister expressed hope that the said proposal is likely to get approval as the country now has a dynamic Home Minister in Amit Shah.
Regarding people's requests, the Chief Minister said that the State Government would consider upgradation of Singhat High School to a higher secondary school and Zougal Memorial Junior High School to a high school.
He also assured to construct a Zoumi Cultural Hall at Behiang soon.
He said that construction of Churachandpur-Sugnu road is almost complete and the bridge constructed over Tuilak river is 70 per cent complete.
The Chief Minister also asked the personnel and officers of the newly inaugurated Behiang police station to specially check entry of illegal migrants and drug trafficking activities.
He also directed them to attend to grievances of the villagers by holding Meeyamgi Numit every month.
Hundreds of villagers clad in traditional attires welcomed the Chief Minister on his arrival in an IAF helicopter at Behiang football ground at around 11.30 am.
He was accompanied by CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam, PHE Minister Losii Dikho, Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, Education Minister Th Radheshyam, MANIREDA Chairman and Singhat AC MLA Ginsuanhau, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, DGP LM Khaute, Secretary to CM Ningthoujam Geoffrey and other high ranking officials of the State Government.
The Chief Minister also launched Smart Hospital Management System/Technology for Behiang PHC at the function.
Later, he led other dignitaries in planting saplings inside the police station complex.
They also inspected the building and barracks of the police station which currently has 50 personnel.
Churachandpur DC Shyam Lal Poonia and Churachandpur SP Amrita Sinha also attended the function.
Behiang Police Station was constructed by Manipur Police Housing Corporation.
